Come See Us at MATS

Come visit Truckers Against Trafficking at MATS in Louisville, KY on March 31-April 1. We’ll be in the West Wing, sharing booth #65069 with Transport for Christ. We’d love to talk with you, give you information on human trafficking and Truckers Against Trafficking and share some TAT materials with you. We hope to have our new trucking-industry-specific training DVD available there as well. It will be powerful and a very useful tool for orientation and all employee training.

Help Pass the Child Protection Compact Act

We’d like to ask members of the trucking industry to help with the passage of a very important bill for those childen who are victims of human trafficking worldwide. It’s called the Child Protection Compact Act (CPCA), and it will be brought up in the lame-duck session of Congress on Nov. 15 when Congress reconvenes. You can read about the bill at http://www.ijm.org/justicecampaigns/cpca

Will you help flood Senate offices with phone calls in support of the CPCA on Nov. 15 before the clock runs out? The International Justice Mission (www.ijm.org) has sent out a plea for people everywhere to call their Senators and urge them to please pass this bill. UNICEF estimates that 3,287 children are trafficked every day.

Making a call is easy: Call your Senators’ offices and say: “Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m calling from [City, State]. I’m calling to ask Senator [NAME] to vote YES to pass the Child Protection Compact Act (S. 3184). This bill would help to eradicate child trafficking, an issue I really care about. Would you please pass my message on to the Senator? Thank you!”

You can find your Senators’ contact information at www.senate.gov.

Thank you for lending your voice for this final push on behalf of children in bondage around the world.

Oct. 13 Webinar Technical Difficulties

We are so sorry to the people who were registered and who tried to attend the latest Human Trafficking webinar. We had severe technical difficulties, and while I was going through the presentation, apparently no one could see or hear it. We will send out personal emails tomorrow to all of the attendees and really hope each one of you will sign up again. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Earn money and help TAT at the same time!

Okay Friends,

We have the opportunity to make some money for CH. 61/TAT in a very simple way that won’t actually cost anyone any money.

Go to Ad2Me.com and go to the Get Paid link at the top. Fill out the short form (took me 3 minutes) and where it says “Were you referred to us by a friend?” You click yes, and two more spaces will appear. You put Ch. 61/TAT and the phone number 918-695-2153.

On the next page of the form, you get to choose and tailor the amount of text ads you will receive, when you receive them and on what day. For instance, if I want one ad a day at noon, I can choose that. If I want only one ad a week on Saturday at 3pm, I can choose that. It is nice because the power is with the person. I personally chose to receive one a day six days a week at 2pm CST. :)

Each text that someone gets will net Ch. 61 a nickel. My goal is to have 20,000 people receiving 1 text a week which would net Ch. 61 $1000 a week. Imagine how much many materials we would able to print and distribute…the video would get fully funded, copied and distributed, we would be able to travel to more trucking shows. There is great potential here.

The cost to the person signing up for these texts? Maybe a slight annoyance when the text they get is an ad and not a friend messaging.

The benefit to the person signing up for these texts? Besides the person also receiving a nickel per text they receive (check mailed to them when they reach $50) they will also help end human trafficking and support our Truckers Against Trafficking initiative.

I believe the benefit far outweighs the cost. Let us reach this goal of 20,000 people. The website launches November 8th…we can get people signed up starting NOW!

TAT and Homeland Security

Recently, Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) was applauded by the senior counsel for Homeland Security for the work we’re doing. Their new Blue Campaign to combat human trafficking (www.dhs.gov/humantrafficking) is using the film teaser for a 10-minute trucking-industry specific training DVD Chapter 61 is creating in conjunction with iEmpathize, another abolitionist group, (www.truckersagainsttrafficking.com) to encourage the airline industry to combat this crime with their own initiatives. TAT was also held up as an example of an effective grass-roots movement and benefit to the trucking industry by presenters from the National Traffic Law Center and the National District Attorneys Association at a national human trafficking conference in Washington, D.C. in August for prosecuting attorneys and social workers.

Memphis Trucking Expo

Kendis Paris has been asked to speak on behalf of TAT at the Memphis Trucking Expo on October 23, 2010 from 1:00 – 1:30 p.m.

If you’re going to be in the area, we’d love for you to stop by!
